      4) My favorite thing about social media culture is the ability to stay connected to people/ events that aren't necessarily close to me. Whether it's the news or just seeing what my friends back home are up to, I like to be in the loop.
      5) My least favorite thing about social media culture is the increasing dependence we feel to technology. Rather than living in the moment, we take pictures of it so we can share it with others.

    4. Twitter is like a modern newspaper where you have access to instant information. I find out breaking news on Twitter such as the Sandy Hook shooting.

    5. Digital and social media corrupt people. My pet peeve is being in a room with friends where everyone is on their phones checking the various social media sites, instead of socializing with their friends.

    4. I love being able to see funny videos, and pictures, and share jokes with so many people at once. I also love the fact that you can stay connected and/or get in touch with someone who you lost contact with after so much time.

    5. I dislike that with social networks, it can be quite easy to invade someone's privacy or track what they are doing
I also dislike that some people always go on negative rants on a social network, it's very depressing.

    5. I don't like that in today's society it is very hard to escape media. It has become so essential in our day to day life that it is now difficult to unplug.

5.) My least favorite thing about new digital media, is how connected I constantly am, how I have this constant anxiety of making sure I am staying connected throughout my day.I like to be connected, but checking my phone every 20 minutes is grotesque.

    5. My biggest pet peeve is when you go out to lunch or dinner with friends and someone places their phone on the table throughout the meal, checking it every few minutes. I understand having it in your pocket and checking it when it vibrates, but to leave it on display like that is equivalent to saying your phone is as important as the real people sitting with you. My friends and I play a game where we all place our phones in a pile in the middle of the table and the first person to touch their phone pays the entire bill for everyone else.

    5. My least favorite thing about social media culture is how everything seems to be ALL about Facebook or Twitter. It has gone way out of control in every way and since I don't have a Twitter it drives me nuts the way people talk about how much they love it because I am very anti-Twitter.

    4. I like how news is disseminated so quickly. I find out about worldwide news much quicker on the internet, mainly twitter.

    5. I really don't like how modern technology has created a disconnect from reality and real social interaction. I hate going out to a restaurant or bar and everyone is just sitting on their phones and let social media dominate conversations. There is more important things to life, such as interpersonal communication.

    3. Mendham, New Jersey

    4. I think it is really fascinating how quickly messages can go "viral". The power of the internet and social media is a greatly effective tool to reach a widespread audience.

    5. My main issue with social media and the internet is the way in which it is used. The fact that there is such a thing as being "twitter famous" is absolutely ridiculous. While yes it is a great form of personal expression, I find that many people get caught up in the superficial aspect when they could be gaining revolutionary and perspective changing information from all over the world.

    4. News and events of all kinds from around the world are spread almost instantly. It helps to keep up with friends and family that are in distant places too.

    5. It has become too much of a distraction. It distracts students from studying, sure, but it also keeps them from living completely "social" lives. Social media serves as a vacation from reality for some people, and takes others out of the moment they are living in. It is overall beneficial, but it distracts many people from real, current events.
